Cuba’s coffee industry is a world of hurt with coffee production falling almost 90% since the 1960s. Whether it’s the inevitable effects of communism or just a series of bad decisions, as the Cuban government puts it, the bottom line is the Cuban coffee industry is terrible. They actually had to import 18,000 tons of coffee last year just to keep up with domestic demand. This may be about to change though. Cuba has turned to biotechnology and created a new strain of coffee plant that produces more and is more disease resistant….
